Ok my gallery is back up. It’s currently a work in progress, I’m not satisfied with the current look. Right now I only have pictures of the East Atlanta Strut posted but I am working on getting more up soon.

I just had a kick ass weekend. It started off Friday night, I actually didn’t have any plans so I was sitting around the house but I got bored. I hopped online to see what was happening. My search turned up a band called Entropy that was playing at the Apache Cafe. Their MP3s sounded good and off I went. Man am I glad I did, these guys rock, they play a mix of Jazz+Funk, Hip Hop and Reggae. I was so impressed I picked up a copy of their CD. They even played a cover of “Let me Ride” from the Chronic, very cool! On a side note, the vegetarian lasagna at the Apache is very good.

Ori was playing after Entropy but I wasn’t into it so we (roommate and I) decided to leave. We stopped off at the EARL which turned out to be a very good move. I ended up meeting a very cool member of the opposite sex, she’s an artist, writer, photographer and all around cool person. We ended up closing the EARL at 3am (thank you Atlanta City Council said facetiously) I was so wired (naturally) though, I couldn’t get to sleep until five something.

The next day was the 8th Annual East Atlanta Strut. I wanted to get up early to catch the race and parade but it wasn’t meant to be. I finally showed up around twelve something. The turn out was very good this year, lots of booths and music. Some of my OTP friends even showed up and they never come down to East Atlanta. Derrick Spivey had a killer setup. He is a metal sculptor and his work is extremely impressive. He had numerous pieces there and all of them were cool. He creates his work from scratch as opposed to scrap metal and uses a lot of paint. Even if you don’t like metal work you’ll probably like his stuff. I snapped a bunch of pics, (mostly abstract) they’ll be in the gallery when I get it back up. I also saw some bands during the strut, the most impressive of which was Twelfth Planet. I’m not going to even attempt to describe them, all I can say is go see them if you have a chance. After listening to some really bad karaoke at Mary’s I went over to the EARL. While I was there a girl started hitting on me. I wasn’t interested but I was flattered nonetheless. I had to call it quits sometime between twelve and one. I was definitely done for, from too much drinking and from being out in the sun all day.

To cap the weekend off I went to see the Falcons trounce the Rams at the Falcons home opener. 34-17 man that was a good game! There were some Rams fans sitting near us so we heckled back and forth throughout the game, it was a lot of fun. It looks like we’re back on track, hopefully things will hold up.

The only think that marred the weekend was me forgetting to call my dad on his birthday, I’m blaming it on the beer. ;) That’s two great weekends in a row (was in Tampa last weekend, still need to write about it). I’m going to Iowa on Friday, hopefully I can keep the streak going.

My gallery is currently down. I am replacing it with Exhibit Engine. I hope to have it back up by the end of the day.

Took me two hours to get home last night because of hurricane Ivan. The downtown connector was packed so I got off on North Ave, which turned out to be a mistake. Part of it was flooded and there was a car stuck in it with water up to its windows. Of course I didn’t have my camera. I almost went back to get a shot but after two hours in traffic and rain I was done for the night. I didn’t lose power but my Internet connection went down. So I watched Black Hawk Down, it was a pretty good movie. Although some of the accents were really bad. If you ever get a chance check out Ambush in Mogadishu by Frontline. It’s an excellent program.

Website Gallery update:
Apparently I’m not the only one having problems with Gallery and Go Daddy, hopefully the issue will be resolved soon

I’m having problems uploading images to my gallery. As soon as it’s fixed I will put some Tampa pictures up. Also I am now number 5 when you search for my name on Google! Hopefully I’ll get to number one soon.

On Labor Day I went to the 19th annual WRFG Labor Day Blues BBQ. It was held at the Masquerade of all places. For those in the know the Masquerade is usually frequented by younger people the majority of which could be classified as goths. For the Blues fest though the older Atlantians were out in force. I was definitely one of the youngest people there excluding the kids and babies. Yes that’s right, kids and babies. It was pretty funny actually people brought lounge chairs and strollers, it was quite a sight. The senor citizen contingent was represented as well. Everybody was cool though, we were all there to see some good blues and the atmosphere was copacetic. I caught the tail end of Zydefunk a New Orleans style zydeco band, there are a high energy band and they made me start jonesing for my New Orleans trip in October. I also caught the headliner Bob Margolin, man he could play guitar. His band would have been great by themselves but the audience received and added bonus when some of our local artists sat in on some songs. Francine Reed (excellent! check her out if you ever get a chance), Mudcat, Sweet Betty, Tommy Brown and Bill Sheffield all sat in for different songs. Also one of the bartenders working that night was absolutely stunning. She told me her name but I couldn’t hear her over the crowd noise. She had an uncanny knack of remembering peoples names to everyone’s amazement. I was to much of a chickenshit to talk to her plus I already had a couple of Sam Smith’s Imperial Stouts (7% alcohol and my new favorite beer) before going there so that didn’t help any.

Alas I have some sad news to pass along, the Masquerade is being sold soon or already has been. They will keep it open for a year after the sale but then who knows what will happen to it. Whatever they do I hope they don’t demolish the building, it has a lot of character.

Singing the blues for the Masquerade

Picked up Stone Age Complication by Queens of the Stone Age a couple of days ago. It is a collection of rare tracks and B-sides. I highly recommend it if you are a Queens fan that is. I especially like “Wake up Screaming” and “Born to Hula”. The “No One Knows” remix was also good as well as the other tracks. I picked it up for $7 at Criminal Records a pretty good deal in my opinion.

I finished reading Burning Chrome on the plane during my recent Cary trip. It is a collection of short stories by one of my favorite authors William Gibson. Though I prefer his novels the stories were enjoyable. Some of them seemed a little unpolished but entertaining nonetheless. If you’ve never read any Gibson before I would start with his magnum opus Neuromancer, then move onto Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive. These three novels are unofficially considered the “Sprawl Trilogy” and I enjoyed each of them immensely.

BTW William Gibson is the author credited with pushing the envelope for the Cyberpunk genre. He also predicted many of the present aspects of the Internet and the movie The Matrix blatantly rips off many of his ideas (I still think The Matrix is a great film though).

now if I could only find my wiz…..
